Responsibilities Job Description: The Materials Engineering Department provides materials and process expertise to support manufacturing processes, failure analysis, new process development, and materials selection and design. This position is within the Materials Engineering Chemical Analysis Section. It will require interaction with senior personnel, manufacturing engineers and operators, and chemical / material suppliers. Activities may include chemical recertifications, lot acceptance testing, material requalification testing, failure analysis support, support to manufacturing processes, and material design support. This position will require hand-on laboratory work. Typical laboratory skills that may be required include the following: Preparation of lap shear samples Hardness measurements Visual inspections Materials identification using Fourier Transfer Infrared (FTIR) Spectroscopy and Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM) / Energy Dispersive X-ray Spectroscopy (EDS) Mechanical testing Thermal analysis Cross-Section preparation Microscopy This position will be located in Portsmouth, RI and will be part of a small but growing group of Materials Engineers at this location. This position requires a self-starter who is ambitious, hands-on, and able to network effectively to develop active working relationships with Operations, Quality, and Manufacturing Engineers in the Portsmouth, RI location. This position requires a person who is able to lead by influence and is empowered to use good engineering judgement to make decisions. This position will require occasional trips to Andover MA at the start of the employment for training/introduction to counterparts in the lab areas. This position will be Salary Grade G08 (Senior Multidisciplined Engineer I) or Salary Grade G09 (Senior Multidisciplined Engineer II) based upon the applicant's qualifications as they relate to the skills, experience, and requirements of the position. Required Skills: Minimum of 4 years of hands-on laboratory experience related to chemical and/or mechanical analysis of materials Knowledge of Microsoft Office(Word, Excel, Powerpoint) Technical writing skills Ability to obtain a Security Clearance U.S. Citizenship Desired Skills: Experience working within a manufacturing environment Working knowledge of military and commercial materials and process specifications. Working knowledge of standard test methods (ex.
