Many Planned Parenthood affiliates also provide advanced gynecologic care, gender affirming care, and primary care, among other services. Planned Parenthood Federation of America (PPFA) seeks a dynamic and effective Chief Medical Officer (CMO). This role serves as the authority on quality and clinical care across the Federation. The CMO will ensure that medical standards are relevant, highly reliable and are best practices that meet our patients needs. They will evaluate developments in medical care and make recommendations for new practices and procedures. They will also advise Federation leadership on matters impacting and advancing patient care, advance health equity and improve health outcomes in traditionally marginalized communities. The CMO will help PPFA focus on system administration and will help move PPFA forward as both a trusted national healthcare brand and a network of healthcare providers. The CMO will be responsible for the overall clinical direction of Planned Parenthood. Moreover, the CMO is responsible for advancing the mission of Planned Parenthood and care for patients across the country. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Advise the President and serve as a member of the Planned Parenthood Federation of Americas Senior Leadership Team, led by the PPFA President/CEO, to inform its strategy and execution of programs, initiatives and the role of clinical leadership in Planned Parenthoods delivery of its Mission. Work collaboratively with the EVP and senior leadership of HCD to develop and execute a team centered strategic work plan for the PPFA Health Care Division that advances the overall strategic plan and mission of the organization. Provide overall leadership for PPFAs medical services programs, including leadership of the departments support of and relationship to the National Medical Committee. Ensure a Federation-wide approach to advancing a culture of excellence in patient experience across the organization. Collaborate with the VP of PPX and advise on the development and implementation of a provider strategy for engaging clinicians in experience improvement nationally. Provide input?, guidance and feedback to a wide range of PPFA staff about issues related to clinical care, including standards and practices both within PPFA and in the field of sexual and reproductive health; review strategies and materials, participate in discussions, and provide a strong medical and clinical perspective. Collaborate with ?and advise our research and clinical quality improvement teams regarding studies and publications. Ensure medical and patient-centered care is strategically embedded in collaborative efforts across the national office to advance health equity and improve public health outcomes; coordinate and partner with other PPFA teams, including policy, advocacy?, ?communications & culture, litigation & law, all of HCD, including digital products and education, and external partnerships; provide expertise, guidance?? and feedback to PPFA teams on externally?-?facing work?. Serve as the primary spokesperson for PPFA on medical issues in a variety of venues reaching a range of audiences, including media?, ?video/multimedia content?, ?speaking engagements?, ?conferences, legislative briefings/testimony?, ?written submissions, and events. Ensure medical direction, guidance, and support for the recruitment of affiliate medical directors; foster a culture of clinical leadership with affiliate medical directors that is inclusive of all clinical professionals, including MDs, DOs, PAs, CNMs and APCs. Collaborate with HCD leadership and affiliate medical directors in the development and expansion of new medical services; participate collaboratively in cross-departmental efforts to ensure ongoing access to abortion services for patients across the country. Ensure medical leadership and oversight to the Co-Medical Leadership Program, in partnership with the National Director of Planned Parenthood Experience and National Director of Affiliate Leadership Support, a leadership development program for affiliate CEOs and Medical Directors. In parternship with the VP of Healthcare Operations and VP of Abortion Access, develop and ensure oversight for a new program, Service Corps, to foster and develop a pipeline of future Planned Parenthood physicians and APCs, including abortion providers, for affiliates across the country. Collaborate and build strong working relationships with Affiliates Risk Management Services (ARMS) and other Planned Parenthood ancillary/related organizations with an eye towards innovation and transformation efforts led by the Federation. Provide medical leadership and insight to transformation efforts in collaboration with the VP of Healthcare Strategy. Identify, collaborate and build strong working relationships with external partners and national care delivery and clinical partners. Collaborate with other staff to establish and nurture relationships with other organizations?, ?particularly those who support historically/traditionally marginalized communities, particularly women of color, young people, and licensed providers in the medical field. Partner with external medical education organizations and enhance Planned Parenthood relationships with key medical orgs such as AMA, ACOG, etc.; identify opportunities for programmatic collaboration, and attend related events?. Develop and maintain strong relationships with PPFA divisions and subsidiaries, as well as external partners?. REQUIREMENTS / TECHNICAL EXPERTISE Must be a board-certified physician. OB/GYN or other primary care or public health specialties with strong experience in reproductive health and health system leadership and administration. 10+ years of directly-related, progressively responsible experience as a physician with experience in a leadership role with administration, policy, management, project management, and supervision experience. Expert, up-to-date medical knowledge, particularly in health care delivery systems. Demonstrated understanding of the impact of professional sovereignty in the practice of clinical care and the needed shift to team-centered patient care.
